PHENOXY resins (polyhydroxyethers) are tough, ductile, amorphous, thermoplastic polymers having excellent thermal stability, adhesive strength, and vapor barrier properties. PHENOXY resins may be crosslinked by reacting its hydroxyl functional groups with isocyanates, melamine resins, or phenolic resins. Crosslinked PHENOXY resins exhibit excellent chemical resistance, hardness, and adhesion on many substrates including steel, aluminum, glass, carbon fibers, and plastics such as nylon and polyester (PET).
PHENOXY PKHS-40 can be reduced with additional MEK to attain lower viscosities, however below about 22% solids, the solution may phase separate. The addition of 1% by weight of water will permit stable solutions below 22% solids. Coatings of PHENOXY PKHS-40 exhibit excellent levels of flexibility and toughness when appropriately cured.
