DICRYLAN® AC-01 acrylate dispersion can be diluted with cold water in all proportions.
To thicken DICRYLAN® AC-01 acrylate dispersion we recommend the following products: DICRYLAN®THICKENER HV 30 (polyacrylic acid) The thickening effect only occurs in an alkaline medium (pH 8). DICRYLAN® AC-01 acrylate dispersion must therefore be adjusted to an alkaline pH, preferably with ammonia, after the thickener has been added. DICRYLAN® THICKENER TFC (terpolymer dispersion) The thickener is added to the acrylate emulsion with constant slow stirring.
For the preparation of coating formulations it is necessary in general to have a high-speed stirrer that has enough power for this size of batch. The products should always be added in the prescribed sequence, one after the other. The product may form a film on the surface in stored drums; it might therefore be helpful to sieve the dispersion before use.
By adding cross-linking agents containing methylol groups like KNITTEX® CHN, the swellability of the acrylate films in water and solvents can be reduced and the permanent effects be considerably improved. The amounts can be up to 3–5 % on weight, calculated on DICRYLAN® AC-01acrylate dispersion.
